| Boards and Committees
Your newspaper association is governed by three boards
of directors, with policy recommendations generated by several committees.
The various boards and committees are made up entirely of members,
and assisted by INA staff liaisons.
Boards:
Iowa Newspaper
Association Board of Directors
The Iowa Newspaper Association’s mission is to protect, promote,
foster and advance the interests of the members of the newspaper
industry and to provide direction to the association’s two
related boards. (June 2005)
INA Services Co.

The INA Services Company’s mission is to advance
the economic well-being of Iowa newspaper enterprises primarily
through research, promotion and advertising sales. (June

Iowa Newspaper
Foundation Board of Directors
The Iowa Newspaper Foundation’s
mission is to champion and improve the quality and future of Iowa’s
newspaper enterprises and the communities they serve and to raise
funds to fulfill this mission. (June 2005)
Committees:
All-State
Committee - oversees the INA All-State
football, boys’ and girls’ basketball and baseball athletic
recognition programs. Committee members help with the selection
process and may make recommendations to the INA Board on ways the
programs can be improved.
Contest
Committee - makes recommendations
to the Iowa Newspaper Foundation Board regarding the Better Newspaper
Contests categories, rules, awards and judging procedures.
Convention
Program Committee – chaired
by the INA executive committee member at large, this committee plans
the annual convention. Committee members serve as moderators at
convention sessions.
Finance
Committee – includes the presidents,
first vice presidents and secretary-treasurers of the INA, INA Services
Co. and INF Boards plus others appointed by the INA President. Committee
members discuss and, if necessary, amend the proposed consolidated
annual budget from staff prior to recommending its adoption to the
three boards. The committee also annually reviews the investment
policy and may also make recommendations regarding the association’s
finances.
Government
Relations Committee - makes recommendations
to the INA Board regarding the association’s legislative priorities.
The committee meets at least twice a year…once in the late
spring/early summer to review the year’s legislative session
and once in the fall to develop a recommendation regarding legislative
priorities for the next legislative session. The committee also
monitors non-legislative government activities and, when appropriate,
makes recommendations to the INA Board regarding INA action.
Investment
Strategy Committee –
serves as the chief oversight/support group for the INF Executive director on fundraising matters. Members of the committee include the INF President, the three INF Vice Presidents, the INA President and Vice President, the INF Executive Director and the INA Executive Director.
Member Services
Committee - reviews proposals from
vendors seeking to market products or services to INA members and
makes recommendations to the INA Board regarding any new member
service it feels the INA should offer. The committee also conducts
reviews of current member services and may make recommendations
to change or discontinue them.
Newspapers
in Education (NIE) Committee –
makes recommendations to the INF Board on ways to develop and promote
the use of newspapers as a classroom teaching resource.
Nominating
Committee - develops a nominating
report to the membership for board elections. There is a committee
for the INA Board and the INF Board. The bylaws of the INA and INF
are followed when appointing these committees. The committees’
recommendations are published in the INA Bulletin and voted on at
the INA and INF Annual Meetings held during the INA Convention.
Promotion
Task Force - oversees activities of
Print Power Plus, CNA's initiative designed to bring new advertising
dollars to newspapers and makes appropriate recommendations to the
INA Services Co. Board. This Task Force may also make recommendations
regarding other aspects of the advertising service.
Scholarship
Committee - administers several scholarship
funds that provide assistance to Iowa students preparing for newspaper
careers and makes recommendations to the INF Board regarding the
recipients of the scholarships.
Seminar
Committee - plans all education events
other than the convention program and keeps the INF Board informed
of its decisions.
Technology
Committee – searches for ways
INA members and/or their association can benefit from technology
and makes recommendations to the INA Board regarding programs or
vendor relationships which can benefit members.
