| Want to join
a board or committee?
If you are interested in becoming more involved
in the Iowa Newspaper Association or the Iowa Newspaper Foundation,
you should look into joining one of our several committees or
one of our three boards of directors. The work of the INA is done
by advisory committees which make recommendations to three boards
of directors (INA, INA Services Co. and INF). The INA is always
looking for members interested in serving on committees.
New board members and officers are elected at the
Annual Meeting in February of each year. Committees are named
shortly thereafter. Board member terms vary from one to three
years, while committee appointments are for one year.

basketball and baseball athletic recognition programs. Committee

to the INA Board on ways the programs can be improved.

to the INA Board on programs, speakers or activities that could
help newspapers retain and build circulation.

Finance Committee – includes
the presidents, first vice presidents and secretary-treasurers
of the INA, INA Services Co. and INF Boards plus others appointed
by the INA President. Committee members discuss and, if necessary,
amend the proposed consolidated annual budget from staff prior
to recommending its adoption to the three boards. The committee
also annually reviews the investment policy and may also make
recommendations regarding the association’s finances.
Government Relations Committee - makes recommendations
to the INA Board regarding the association’s legislative
priorities. The committee meets at least twice a year…once
in the late spring/early summer to review the year’s legislative
session and once in the fall to develop a recommendation regarding
legislative priorities for the next legislative session. The committee
also monitors non-legislative government activities and, when
appropriate, makes recommendations to the INA Board regarding
INA action.
Member Services Committee - reviews
proposals from vendors seeking to market products or services
to INA members and makes recommendations to the INA Board regarding
any new member service it feels the INA should offer. The committee
also conducts reviews of current member services and may make
recommendations to change or discontinue them.
Newspapers in Education (NIE) Committee
– makes recommendations to the INF Board on ways to develop
and promote the use of newspapers as a classroom teaching resource.
Nominating Committee - develops a
nominating report to the membership for board elections. There
is a committee for the INA Board and the INF Board. The bylaws
of the INA and INF are followed when appointing these committees.
The committees’ recommendations are published in the INA
Bulletin and voted on at the INA and INF Annual Meetings held
during the INA Convention.
Promotion Task Force - oversees activities
of Print Power Plus, CNA's initiative designed to bring new advertising
dollars to newspapers and makes appropriate recommendations to
the INA Services Co. Board. This Task Force may also make recommendations
regarding other aspects of the advertising service.
Scholarship Committee - administers
several scholarship funds that provide assistance to Iowa students
preparing for newspaper careers and makes recommendations to the
INF Board regarding the recipients of the scholarships.
Seminar Committee - plans all education
events other than the convention program and keeps the INF Board
informed of its decisions.
Technology Committee – searches
for ways INA members and/or their association can benefit from
technology and makes recommendations to the INA Board regarding
programs or vendor relationships which can benefit members.
