INA Announces 2009 All-State Selections for Girls Basketball

The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2009 All-State Girls Basketball teams for Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A Tuesday, naming Amanda Zimmerman of Ballard High School as “Miss Basketball.” For the Iowa State-bound recruit Zimmerman, March 7, 2009 is likely to be one of the most memorable days of her high school career. Early Saturday a panel of sportswriters from across the state named the 6-2 senior from Ballard as Iowa Miss Basketball 2009 after selecting her as a Class 3A First Team All-Stater for the fourth consecutive season. Later that evening she helped lead the Bombers to an elusive state championship, a goal she had seen slip away after helping Ballard qualify for the state tourney each of the past three years.

Zimmerman scored 16.1 points per game this season while pulling down 6.2 rebounds per outing. She averaged 2.1 blocks, 1.6 steals and 1.1 assists per contest.
